Great day at CrossFit East Auckland yesterday for their grand opening 'Fran-Off'. Arrived to see the usual carnage, lots of people with cold sweats, 100 yard stares, shaky limbs and of course there is always one person having a bit of a vom......
All very common, the tougher the workout, the more likely it is to induce that sort of effect, and Fran certainly fits the tough workout bill.
Of course losing your breakfast is not the primary aim. But many old-fashioned coaches, or less experienced coaches and athletes actively seek that feeling out. Ridiculous volume, interval training with minimal rest, exercises with major 'grind' factor such as sled drags and prowler pushes are all great tools to bring your insides to the outside.
We call these 'Any Arsehole Workout'........as in, any arsehole can make you spew, but it takes a bit more thought to make you fitter.
NB: Just in case anyone read the above the wrong way, the guy witnessed having a ralph today was not an inexperienced athlete, just one of NZ's best weightlifters experiencing his first CrossFit workout, and the team at CFEA are not old fashioned, nor inexperienced (check them out if you live out that way!), all blame lies with Fran, an unforgiving test.
