Well The Open is done for another year. Thanks to everyone who participated, a huge well done to all of you. Some amazing achievements and spectacular efforts. The competitive side of CrossFit is both something we downplay and emphasise here. It's downplayed when we are encouraging newbies to develop good technique, during injury rehab and when we want to see inactive people simply rediscover a passion for exercise.
But competition offers its own amazing benefits. Putting yourself outside your comfort zone, testing yourself, adding a mental component to the physical, and the fun of cheering for others and being cheered for by others. This part is pretty cool actually - kiwis don't tend to like compliments and praise; but being front and centre while people clap and yell and holler, you can't help but feel good.
