Ruth looking focused during last weeks tough kettlebell workout.
The May Nutrition Challenge is over!! Well done to all who participated. Hopefully you learned a bit about nutrition and about yourself. Have a treat meal or two but then see if you can continue the good habits you've developed.
Also, the Games season has come to an end for all of us here at CFNZ. Except for Pat, congratulations on the win! Pat will be heading to the Home Depot Centre in Los Angeles in July to compete for the title of Fittest on Earth.
This weekend in Sydney was fantastic, with the toughest competion so far, and the toughest field of individuals and teams. Our band of 10 athletes and 5 supporters managed to make plenty of noise and get ourselves noticed amongst the Aussie dominated venue.
We can't even begin to put into words how proud we are of everyone. So to prevent further emotional rambling, the rest of the post will be limited to bullet points of the weekend stand out moments.
- Fale lifting the most weight on the Thruster for both team and individual comp. He was the last competitor to start the event, which meant that once all others had been eliminated, he had the arena and the attention of the entire audience to himself as he systematically destroyed the 245, 255, 265 and 275 lb bars. Check out this video (at 3:34 on the timeline) to watch his last lift.
- Pip making the crowd go silent (for about 2 seconds, and then it turned into cheering) when she ran into the stadium on the first event and started banging out handstand pushups like she didn't believe in gravity for 3rd place in that event. And then for doing the same again during event 3 with just shy of double bodyweight deadlifts for 45 reps.
- Larissa knocking out the fastest opening deadlift set during the team event. 21 in a row of 85kgs! And partnering with Fale to 2nd place in the thruster event.
- Carl for best haircut, most consistent appearances in the warmup area to support our athletes, biggest guns, best school bag, consistent spreader of misinformation to the competition, and all round team anchor. His muscle ups and snatches in Amanda were also a thing of beauty.......
- Kaz hitting 5 reps of her 1RM snatch during event 5, and keeping a smile on her face the whole time.
- Mikes consistent KB swings under intense judging and incredibly strict standards to help the team make the cut for the final day.
- Jo for being brave enough to go last on the final workout and have us all screaming at her as the clock ran down
Other highlights/lowlights
- the promised rain never eventuating
- consistently average coffee
- the crowd cheering louder for the battlers than the winners
- the awesome venue that allowed the crowd to be so close to the action and the competitors to draw on the support of their people
- catching up with old friends and making new ones
- hot people in skimpy clothing.........
- testing, but well designed workouts
- team dinners each night - lots of laughs
- the streaker - that's right, CrossFit is now an official sport as we had a streaker. He demonstrated a couple of good chest to bar pullups before disappearing. And yes he had a tattoo on his shoulder blade, but no it was not me! Do not open this video at work!
Now, just because you missed out on the Regionals or even the Sectionals doesn't mean you have to miss out altogether. This month we celebrate our 3rd birthday! And will do it in style with a competion that will be open to CrossFitters of all levels. Details in the next couple of days, but keep June 25th free!
Workout
Deadlift, 3 reps (120/70)
Push press, 7 reps (50/35)
AMRAP in 5mins

Damn... the streaker video has been removed.
Well done to everyone. Sounds like it was an awesome showing by the CFNZ team.
